Doris (Andres) Bakshi, 76, of Port Charlotte, FL passed away peacefully Thursday September 18, 2014.
Born April 26, 1938 in New Albany, IN, the first child of the late Isabelle and Tony Andres, Doris (“Dorsie”; “Deepa”;”Mom”;“Grandma Dorsie”; “GiGi”) became the proud parent of 4, grandmother to 10, great grandmother to 5, and sibling to 6 sisters.

Doris spent her early years in southern Indiana, graduated from Providence High School in 1956, attended Spalding University, Pasadena City College, Indiana University Southeast and received her Master’s Degree from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

As a beautiful and independent young lady, Doris met the love of her life, the late Yogi Bakshi – a handsome and brilliant U of L Speed School Engineering Student from Jullundur India, which led to the creation of a wonderful family. Doris’ life journey and travels took her to many cities, states and countries. Places she called home included New York, California, India, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Indiana, Kentucky, Oregon, and Florida.

Left to cherish her memory are her children - Dave Bakshi (Karen), Neena Bakshi, Sundy Nitzken (John), and Indy Bakshi-Davis (Ken); her grandchildren – Christina Baerveldt (Ben), Stephanie Nitzken–Weede (Bryan), Tony Bakshi (Emily), Dan Nitzken, Jessica Mailliez (Adam), Alex Bakshi, Chase Minos, Amanda Nitzken, Emma Davis, and Frances Davis; her great grandchildren – Carissa Baerveldt, Landon Mailliez, Brenna Baerveldt and Conner Baerveldt, and Ella Grace Weede; her sisters (and life-long friends) – Ella Scoudan (Ernie), Roberta Koerner, Paula Bourne (Joe), Sandy Rogers (Bill), Vicki Prince, Mary Beth Gettelfinger (Brad); her sister-in-law – Saroj Gupta; and many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Doris loved life, people, nature, travel, reading, writing, art, gardening, cooking, bird watching and good conversations. She will be dearly missed and always remembered. A special thanks to the kind and caring staff at Tidewell Hospice House in Port Charlotte, FL for the comfort and compassion they provided to Doris.

Burial will take place at 10 AM on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in New Albany. A reception of family and friends will follow from 11 AM to 2 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany).
