Listen to Obituary

Zack Moody, 42, passed away on September 1, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky. Zack was born in Louisville, Kentucky on September 13, 1982. He was raised in three different states: Louisville, Kentucky; Decatur, Alabama; and Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

As an adolescent, Zack was a proud member of several different sports and clubs: baseball, football, wrestling team, debate team, and Boy Scouts, to name a few. Zack made Eagle Scout at 15 years old. He was the youngest Scout to achieve such a prestigious accomplishment, at that time. He cherished his grandfather, Melvin Shein, and wanted to make that accomplishment to follow in his footsteps. To say Zack did that and so much more would be an understatement. Zack graduated with Honors from Oak Grove High School in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. From there, he graduated with an Associate in Applied Science in Automotive Technology from Jones County Junior College in Ellisville, Mississippi. Zack held numerous certifications, including ASE certification (National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence) and achieving Master Technician status. Zack was like a magician with the way he could fix anything, especially when it came to cars. He quickly grew known in Hattiesburg for his skills and opened his own automotive business. He lived by the motto "treat others the way you would want to be treated." After years of hard work and dedication to perfecting his craft, Zack moved back home to help his family. Zack was the oldest of three siblings; Nathan, Joe, and Megan. He was more than their big brother, he was the closest thing to a father they had growing up. From changing diapers, babysitting, teaching them to drive, showing them how to fix things, and intimidating the people they brought home- he was always there to protect and love them. When his mom, Laura Shein, married his step-dad, Howard Lee, Zack found both a father figure and friend. Zack stepped up to the plate to help his family and friends without ever needing to be asked, and not asking for, or accepting anything in return. If you needed your car worked on, he was known for having a box of old spare parts and would "MacGyver" it to work if need be. If you needed help moving, he was the first one there with a dolly and a plan. Zack was the go-to person for anything and everything. He loved helping others and teaching them a thing or two along the way. Zack believed in continuous learning. He loved American History, especially when it came to the Civil War. He watched Jeopardy every night and would research the answers that he didn't know so he would know more about those topics. He was a master at Sudoku and word puzzles. Zack loved playing cards with his friends, particularly poker and Briscas. Zack brightened every room he walked into. He was always the loudest one there and making the funniest joke, at least to him anyways. He was devoted to his family and caring for his mother, Laura Shein. He instilled the values every man should be in his brothers, and the values his sister should look for in a partner. Zack will always be remembered for his intellect, sense of humor, sharp wit, tough guy persona, and caring soul. May he Rest In Peace knowing how deeply loved and missed he is. Life will truly never be the same without him. Until we meet again, Zack, play Jimmy Buffett a little louder for us in Heaven.
