Yvonne "Betsy" Putnam, a cherished wife, devoted mother, and vibrant spirit, peacefully departed this world on January 25, 2026, at the age of 86 in Scottsburg, Indiana. Born on August 7, 1939, in Louisville, Kentucky, Betsy graced the lives of many with her infectious laughter and unwavering love.
Betsy dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her family, believing that caring for her husband and children was the most fulfilling career she could pursue. Her warmth and kindness touched everyone around her; she never met a stranger, and her love for conversation drew people in. Betsy's spirit was a shining light, showcasing her joy in simple pleasures-whether it be bowling, playing games with friends and family, or enjoying to play BINGO.
A proud graduate of Southern High School in Louisville, she not only excelled academically but also fostered deep connections with her classmates, whom she cherished throughout her life. Betsy's accomplishments were not marked by accolades but rather by the love and pride she felt for her family and friends, who were always at the center of her universe.
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Laura Putnam, and her devoted brother, Richard (Sue Bryant) Smith. Additionally, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a multitude of friends will miss her dearly, each holding cherished memories of their time spent together.
Betsy now joins those she has lost: her beloved husband, Dale Putnam; her cherished son, Greg Putnam; her parents, Ernest and Clara Smith; and her siblings, Carl Smith and June Pfiester. Their reunion brings comfort to those who mourn.
Friends and family are invited to honor Betsy's remarkable life at the Newcomer Funeral Home in Southern Indiana, located at 3309 Ballard Ln, New Albany, IN 47150. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 4:00 PM.
Betsy's life was a testament to the power of love and laughter. She enriched the lives of all who knew her, leaving behind a legacy marked by joy, familial devotion, and countless fond memories.
