Yolande Barnes

Yolanda Lanell Barnes (affectionately known as “Lannie”) was born on August 21, 1952, to the late Romie Barnes and Fannie L. Gardner in Birmingham, Alabama. She was their only child and was later raised in Louisville, Kentucky, where she attended Shawnee High School.

Yolanda dedicated much of her life to caring for others through her work in healthcare. She began her career at St. Anthony’s Hospital in 1974, serving as both a clerk and Certified Nursing Assistant until 1995. She later continued her passion for helping others at Parkway Medical Center, where she worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant from 1997 until her retirement in 2015. Throughout her career, she was known for her compassion, dedication, and commitment to serving those in her care.

At an early age, Yolanda accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was a faithful member of Christ Temple in Louisville, Kentucky. Her faith was an important part of her life and guided the love and care she extended to those around her.

Above all else, Yolanda was devoted to her family. She found her greatest joy in being a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, always placing the needs of her loved ones before her own. Her legacy is one of unconditional love, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to her family.

Yolanda leaves to cherish her memory her loving children, Latonya Butler, Latosha Barnes, and Andre Butler; eight beloved grandchildren; twenty-four cherished great grandchildren; and a host of cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure the love, kindness, and memories she shared.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Romie Barnes and Fannie L. Gardner.

Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Monday, July 6, 2026 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, (10304 Dixie Hwy). Her Celebration of Life Service will be at 5:00 pm on Monday, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel.
