Woodrow Stevenson Coffman, Jr (Steve) was born in Louisville, KY on August 12, 1942. He passed away in Louisville, KY on July 3, 2025 at the age of 82. Steve was raised on a farm in Hanson, KY and graduated from Hanson High School in 1960. He continued his education at Western Kentucky University. Steve moved back to Louisville and pursued a career in insurance sales. Steve established himself as a small business owner through the Allstate Insurance Company as an agent for more than 35 years before retiring. He was the recipient of the Allstate Good Hands Award during his time with Allstate. His interests included sports, singing, puzzles, gardening, and ministry work. Steve was the Manager/Player for the Kentucky Bourbons, a professional slow-pitch softball team, from 1977 to 1982. He was inducted into the Louisville ASA Hall of Fame for Softball in 1989. Steve was a member of the Kentucky Basketball Officials Association (KBOA) for over 50 years. He and another member started the KBOA Christmas Fund. In 2022, the Christmas Fund was renamed to the Steve Coffman-Jerry Bush Christmas Fund. Steve also enjoyed being a NCAA basketball official for several years.
As a result of Steve’s love for singing about Jesus, he was involved in numerous gospel quartets and church choirs. Steve’s green thumb and love of gardening resulted in several Kentucky State Fair awards. His ministry work included volunteering for the Cabbage Patch Settlement House as a basketball coach for several years and Co-Chairman of the Streetball Showdown for 19 years (an event that benefitted Cabbage Patch). Steve was part of the Helping Hands Homeless Ministry and well as a volunteer for the Kentucky State Reformatory Prison Ministry. In 1999, he was a Bell Award recipient for his many years of volunteer work within the community. Steve was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. Steve was a lifetime fan of the Kentucky Wildcats. However, Steve’s greatest joy was his personal relationship with Jesus Christ and sharing the gospel with everyone he met.
