Wilma Christine (Smith) Nelson, 86, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, formerly of Charlestown, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2019. Wilma was a member of Graceland Baptist Church and retired after 33 years from the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant. She loved volunteering for the St. Catherine and Clark Memorial Hospitals and Amedisys Hospice. She was a graduate of Clown College and was an avid flower gardener.
She was born on June 10, 1933, in Springfield, Kentucky, to the late Ernest and Mary (Brown) Smith. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Jeva Seagraves; and brothers, Harold Smith and Norman Smith.
Wilma is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Donald Nelson; children, James (Marty) Newsom, Theresa (Steve) Brading, Patricia (Ike) Morgan, Letha "Kathy" (Will) Clark, and Ernest Newsom; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and brother, Roy "Keith" Smith.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2019, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - New Albany and will continue Saturday morning after 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Her Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Abundant Life Memorial Gardens in New Albany, Indiana.
The family requests that contributions in Wilma's memory be made to Graceland Baptist Church.
