Willie Root

Willie Root, 79, of Charlestown, Indiana, passed away on Monday, October 11, 2021. He retired from Allgood Foods (formerly Shedd's Peanut Butter) in 1996 and was also the former owner of the Timber Inn in Shepherdsville, Kentucky. Willie was raised in the Portland neighborhood in Louisville and upon retirement moved to Bushman's Lake in Charlestown. He was known for his gift of gab and enjoyed fishing, boating, and going to the gym. Willie also liked classic western movies and novels.

He was born on November 2, 1941, in Blue Hole, Kentucky, to Marshall and Eva (Smith) Root. In addition to his parents, Willie was preceded in death by his brothers, Hiram and Cecil Root. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rose (Eckert) Root; daughter, Teresa Wheeler; and sister, Ellen Mae Gahimer.

Cremation was chosen following Willie's wishes, and Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) was entrusted with his care. The family encourages everyone to raise a glass and make a toast in Willie's memory. Contributions can be made to the charity of donor's choosing.
