William Franklin Wright, known fondly to many as Bill, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2026, at the age of 91. Born in New Albany, Indiana, on January 30, 1935, Bill’s life spanned over nine decades, during which he touched the lives of countless individuals.
A proud veteran and accomplished sharpshooter of the United States Army, Bill’s commitment to service and faith defined much of his journey. He led a life marked by quiet strength, leaving behind cherished memories for those who had the privilege to know him. Bill lived out his faith in practical ways by helping other men who were down and out by providing them a short-term place to live. This was his way of showing them what a difference Jesus made in his life. May he be remembered with gratitude and respect for a life well lived and service rendered.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, John Wright and Edith "Vonnie" (Walts) Wright; and his siblings, Jeanetta Yarborough, John R. Wright, Marion Gardner, Robert Wright, Norma Darst, James M. Wright, Betty Quick, Judy Kost, and Donna Johnson.
He is survived by his sister, Wilma Hudson and her husband, Vernon; along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Friday, July 24, 2026 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Service will be at 4:00 pm on Friday, at the funeral home. Bill will be laid to rest with honors at the New Albany National Cemetery at a later date.
