William Tommy Womack

June 13, 1929 — February 4, 2022

William Tommy Womack, age 92, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away Friday, February 4, 2022. He was born on June 13, 1929 in Sonora, Kentucky at his family home in the country. He was born to the late Filmore and Jennie Lee (Pace) Womack. He proudly served in the United States Army where he was in the 101st Airborne Division, Camp Breckinridge, KY. He was an SFC (T) Mess Sergeant in the Korean War where he prepared and delivered food directly to the troops in combat. He continued to cook as though cooking for an Army the rest of his life for family and friends at holiday and birthday functions. His home was always open to family and friends at Thanksgiving and Christmas where everyone was eager to eat his delicious homecooked food.

He married the love of his life, the beautiful Barbara Jean Clark. They had 4 children together and celebrated 25+ years of marriage before she passed away in January 1979. He had a proud 30-year career as a UAW auto worker with Ford Motor Company. The day after he retired, he started another full-time job escorting cars purchased from auctions and looking under the hood to ensure they were a good deal. He loved the boats he purchased over the span of many years and kept them at Lake Cumberland. He was a skillful and experienced fisherman. It was no big task for him to fish all night and come back with enough fish to fry up and feed the entire dock. Everyone gathered around when they saw his fryer going. (We always had to hide a plate for him to eat later.) He was a true-blue Kentucky WILDCATS fan. He will live forever in the hearts of his family and friends. In addition to his wife Barbara and his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by his sisters, Christine Cox (Raymond) and Winifred "Winnie" Tucker; and brothers, Sam Womack (Ruby) and James Paul Womack.

Tommy is survived by his daughters, Tina Willis and Kelley DeGeorge; sons, Dennis Womack and Greg Womack (Kim); grandchildren, Barbara Duvall (Chris), Michael Ray Willis (Hope), Tommy Willis (Helena), Paige Crawford (Kevin), Trevor DeGeorge, Cameron DeGeorge, Danielle Elizabeth Womack (Cam), Noah Womack, Andrew Womack and Gabrielle Womack; great-grandchildren, Josh Womack (Emma), Colin Duvall, Jacob Farler, Easton Crawford, Savannah Crawford, Crew Crawford, Elizabeth Gonzales, Isabella Gonzales, Christina Willis, Caitlynn Willis and Luna Estrella Mota; and a host of relatives and friends.
