William A. "Bill" Stopinski, Sr., age 89 passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. Despite the surgeries, chemo and pain, Bill came out a hero and stayed strong until the end. Bill worked at General Electric for 38 years and retired in 1991. An avid fisherman, he loved fishing in Panama City on the pier and fishing in the many pay lakes with his brother "Bugs". He was a dedicated sports fan, watching sports at home and watching his great-grandsons Landon and Owen grow, who affectionately referred to Bill as "Poppy". Playing Bingo was big on Thursday nights as well. He was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church for over 59 years. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Loraine Stopinski; his brother, Thomas Stopinski; brother-in-law, Charles Allen and Leroy Duncan; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Linda and Donnie Bingham.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Billie Jean; his son, Billy Stopinski, Jr.; his daughter, Laura Cecil (Bobby); granddaughter, Ashley Peak (Kevin); grandsons, Brad Cecil (Zuzana) and Billy Stopinski (Lauren); great-grandsons, Landon and Owen Peak; brother, Bugs Stopinski (Pat); sisters, Mary Boehnlein (Charles) and Claudia Morris; sister-in-law, Carol Duncan; many nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends.
Visitation will be from 3pm to 6pm on Monday, September 16, 2024 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, East Louisvile Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive Louisville, Kentucky 40243. A celebration of Bill's life will follow there at 6pm.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses for their loving care of Bill.
Dad: He never said I love you, in words I can recall, He felt it not the manly thing to do. Yet deep within my heart, I know that love was really there. His eyes, his touch, the things he did all told me that it's true. And now it's time to say "Goodbye" my father and my friend. Sweet memories will remain of him, ones that will never end.
