William Richmond Selman, 75, of Louisville, passed away on June 8, 2017. William, known as "Bill" to friends and "Rich" to family, was born in Pelahatchie, Mississippi on September 17, 1941 to the late William and Ethel Little. He graduated from Eastern High School in Louisville and then entered the Coast Guard. He was a proud Hospital Corpsman in Cape May, New Jersey during his time in the Coast Guard. After leaving the service, he attended the University of Kentucky, graduating with degrees in agriculture and animal sciences. Rich spent his career with The Butler Company in Louisville and Lexington before retiring in the late 1990s.
Rich had many hobbies and interests, including railroads, music and art. He was a founding member of the Bluegrass Railroad Museum in Versailles, Kentucky. He enjoyed listening to music, especially Mississippi Delta Blues. Rich remained a proud supporter of the University of Kentucky throughout his life, where he contributed to the William T. Young Library.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by a sister, Susan Selman. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Barbara Selman; children, Jody Hampton (Krista), Katherine Noland (William), and Meghann Vamvas (Matt); brothers, Harold Selman and David Selman; grandchildren, Isabella Hampton, Griffin Hampton, Leslie Noland, and Henry Noland; and a nephew, Luke Selman.
Funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm Monday, June 12 at Newcomer Funeral Home, East Louisville Chapel (235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY 40243) with visitation at the funeral home from 10:30 am until time of service. Burial at Cave Hill Cemetery will follow services.
