William L. Schweickhardt, Jr., 77 Passed away, peacefully at his home, Friday, May 9, 2025, after a long illness.
Bill graduated from DeSales High School in 1966 and was a recipient of the Pacer Award. He Loved playing football and was a running back for the DeSales Colts.
After high school he attended Murray State University for a year and then was drafted into the United States Army where he went through OCS, Paratrooper and Green Beret training. After the military he became an electrician and was a member of IBEW local 369 trade union. After 20 years with IBEW he joined Ford Motor Company as an electrician for 20 years and retired in 2010.
Bill was a skilled and excellent craftsman and he enjoyed working on difficult projects. He was an expert with his tools and could move stairways, fireplaces, tear down walls and rebuild them. There was no project to big for him. He could turn a shack into a palace and the finished product was always perfect otherwise he would tear it down and start all over.
Bill was an avid UofL fan. He enjoyed watching basketball on tv and attended football games at the stadium. As much as he loved his Cards the highlight of his days was watching his grandchildren excel in their activities. One of the things that always livened up his day was a visit from his three year old great-grandson Mac. Mac's antics always made him smile.
Left to cherish his memory are Donna his wife of 53 years; son, Louie Schweickhardt (Kelly); daughter, Beth King (Danny); seven grandchildren, Hailee Schweickhardt, Will Schweickhardt, Sam Schweickhardt, Edie Morris, Alex King, Audrey King, and Naomi King; sister, Lynn Krebs; brothers David Schweickhardt (Vicky), Jack Schweickhardt (Linda), and Dan Schweickhardt, along with many loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his son, Andrew Schweickhardt, his parents, William L. Schweickhardt Sr. (Willie) and Mildred Schweickhardt (Millie).
I thank God for His strength during this difficult time especially the Hospice team he sent us. With deep gratitude I thank Hana, Michelle, Melisa, and Kim for their support and expertise. Their service was priceless.
