Listen to Obituary

It is with great sadness we announce that William “Paul” Schultz Jr, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away January 2, 2026, at the age of 77 at Norton Brownsboro Hospital. We believe when Paul’s life on this earth was done, Jesus came and gently scooped his broken body into His arms and carried him to eternal life in heaven with our Lord and Savior.

Born on October 14, 1948, in Louisville, Ky, Paul was the son of William Paul and Ruby (Barmore) Schultz. Paul never knew a stranger, was well-liked by all, had an unrelenting passion for golf, and his many friends and family, especially his children and grandchildren. He was smart and wickedly funny and added generous helpings of love and laughter to every gathering, sparing no one. He always had a bright, welcoming smile that reflected his genuine warmth and kindness. His presence in the room was carried with his charismatic charm and infectious joy. He was a lover of people and life, and he lived to the fullest sharing that love with everyone.

He attended St. Xavier High School from 1962 to 1966, where he earned varsity letters in golf and swimming and indulged his love of golf as a member of the school’s legendary golf program. He helped St. Xavier to a state golf title in 1965 and 1966 and shot a 68 to win the 1965 regional title and placed third in the state tournament. He was also a member of the state championship swim teams in 1963 and 1966. His ultimate goal was to become a professional golfer. People took note of his golfing talent, and one day he received a phone call from coach Bear Bryant who tried recruiting him to the University of Alabama, a memory he cherished.

He attended Eastern Kentucky University from 1966 to 1970 on a golf scholarship. He was named team captain in 1969 and 1970. As a freshman he won medalist honors in a match against Bowling Green State and UK and finished second in the 1969 OVC championship. Paul was known as one of the top players in the state as he competed successfully in many state and local tournaments. And although he had financial backing to pursue the pro tour he instead got married and started a family. He was humbled and honored in 2005 when he was inducted into the St. Xavier Athletic Hall of Fame.

He graduated with an accounting degree and went on to pursue a career as a Certified Public Accountant. Paul started his own accounting firm and built a thriving business which continues to this day with his family at the helm. He was proud that his children followed in his footsteps both becoming CPAs. He was deeply respected for his knowledge and was exceptional at helping his clients with their most challenging tax and financial situations, and his clients were also among his closest friends. As many accomplishments as he had, what Paul truly valued was time together, good conversations, and a good laugh.

Paul aka Papa will be best remembered for his kindness, compassion, gentle spirit, sense of humor and love for adventure and fun. He will always be thought of when sitting on a beach, watching a sunset or sunrise, riding in a golf cart, putting on a green, hearing laughter in a room and or seeing a red solo cup. He loved capturing life’s moments with his camera and while he will be deeply missed here, he is capturing his best moments now.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Ruby and William Paul Schultz and his brother Michael Schultz. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Stephanie Frazure (James); son Brian Schultz (Julie); sisters Trudy Miller and Barbara Osting; grandchildren Harrison Rogers, William, Elizabeth, Isabella, Jason (Kamryn) and Michael Frazure, Allison Riley (Matthew) and Kennedy and Reagan Black; great grandchildren Alexander Frazure and Cal Riley.
