William Edward Robinson, of Prospect Kentucky, passed away on January 19, 2017 at his home. He was 85 years old.
He had been a Louisville resident since March 1978 and was born in Connecticut in 1931. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isadore R. and Betty P. Robinson.
William is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Dendinger Robinson, a sister Suzanne R. Gordon, and sister in law, Karen Dendinger all of Louisville. Children from his first marriage, Leigh Ann Ellis of Dallas, TX, Keith William Robinson of Hillsboro, NH, Lynne Renee Robinson of Cincinnati, OH, and Scott Edward Robinson of Franklin, TN. Eight Grandchildren, two Great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
William completed High School in Stamford Connecticut, and shortly thereafter joined the U.S. Air Force and was assigned to the Air Force's Atomic Testing Squadron, as one of its early members having served in both the South Pacific and Nevada's Atomic area testing sites, during the period 1951-1955. After completing his military service, he returned to the retail business. His career included retail, manufacturing, importing and business management. After his arrival in Kentucky he continued in several business endeavors and became involved with General Aviation at Bowman Field, as a F. A. A. Certified Flight Instructor. After several attempts at retirement, he became an employee of JCPS until his complete retirement in 2006.
Donating time for civic activities included, CASA (court appointed special advocates for children) men's shelters & Veteran's Treatment Court. He further served on the Board of Directors of The Harbor at Harrods Creek Condominium Association where he and his wife resided.
Becoming a Kentucky Colonel from Connecticut, William was completely at home in Kentucky and looked forward to returning to Louisville after travels with his wife.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. His wishes were to be cremated with internment at the Lebanon National Military Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kentucky Humane Society in memory of his beloved dogs Babe 1, 2 and 3.
