William "Bill" E. Hughes, 87, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on January 17, 2026. A devoted Catholic and loving father, Bill was known for his kindness and willingness to help others. He dedicated himself to his community, often providing transportation to neighbors for grocery shopping, church, and various other needs.
Throughout his life, Bill was a hardworking individual, building a long and fulfilling career as a grocer and truck driver, including working at Bloemer Food Sales. He took great pride in achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, an accomplishment that reflected his dedication and commitment.
Born on January 16, 1939, in Rock Haven, Kentucky, he was the son of Joseph and Ruby (Lasswell) Hughes. Bill is preceded in death by his father, Joseph C. Hughes; mother, Ruby Maxine Hughes; wife, Clara Lee Hughes; and brother, Harold Hughes.
He leaves behind a loving family, including his children Libby (Jack) Canady, Chris (Sherri) Hughes, Mary Cheryl (Danny) Cottrell, and Andy Hughes. Bill is also survived by his grandchildren, Aaron (Brittany) Browning, Jordan Canady, Emily Dunagan, and Jack Canady III, along with great-grandchildren Rory, Wyatt, Saoirse, and Dallas. He is cherished by his siblings, Donald (Carolyn) Hughes and Clara Hughes, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, located at 10304 Dixie Hwy. A Funeral Service will follow at 5:00 pm on the same day.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donation be directed to Shirleys Way.
