William John (Bill) Gorman, age 96, of Louisville Kentucky passed away on July 19, 2021.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Thelma Jane Gorman and his second son, Richard Gorman.
Bill is survived by two sons, Mark Gorman of Seattle, WA and Scott (Jean) Gorman of Freeland, England, and three grandsons, William, Peter, and Edward Gorman.
Bill grew up in the small village of Bancroft, Michigan. He graduated from Durand High School and joined the Navy at age 18, serving three years during WWII. He served aboard the USS Sylph as a sonar operator and later as a sonar instructor at various Navy and Coast Guard bases on the east coast. He graduated with honors from the University of Michigan with a degree in electrical engineering. He retired from the General Electric Company after 36 years of service in various managerial assignments in the product service department.
After retirement, Bill was a volunteer tax aide with the IRS and AARP for ten years. He enjoyed photography, gardening, and was an avid walker doing up to seven miles per day. Throughout his life he was an expert handyman, doing upgrades and repairs to his own home and those of his sons.
