William Morris "Bill" Finley, Jr., was born August 21, 1955 in Jeffersonville, Indiana to William and Doris Finley. Bill was diagnosed with glioblastoma stage 4 brain cancer in August 2023 and fought a brave battle. He was given peace from his suffering on February 28, 2026.
He is preceded in death by his father William M. Finley, Sr and his son William M. Finley III.
He leaves behind his wife and best friend, Berba, his two daughters Chasity "La'Toi" and Shayla, his loving mother Doris, his sister Lisa along with aunts, nieces, nephew, cousins and good friend, Eric Thomas.
Bill was a 1973 graduate from New Albany High School where he played basketball and baseball. He held the homerun record for over twenty years and was a member of the 1973 Basketball State Championship Team. He attended Tennessee Tech University and finished his education at IUPUI. Bill was inducted in the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 1998 and served as Assistant Basketball Coach at New Albany High School from 1993 to 2002 where he was a part of the 1994 State Finalist Team and the 1996 State Runner Up Team.
Bill was employed and retired from Yum Brands after 27 years working in Research and Development and Quality Assurance.
He loved the game of Basketball, had a passion for Smooth Jazz, and a great love for his family. During his illness, he never failed to tell his family that he loved them. He will be greatly missed.
A gathering of family and friends will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) with a service honoring Bill's life commencing at 1:00 p.m. Cremation will follow in accordance with Bill's wishes.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
