William Arthur “Billy” Crockett, joyfully remembered as Bill Crockett, passed away on July 11, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. Born June 6, 1946, in Pulaski, Virginia, Bill’s life was a radiant force that brightened the world around him, from the hills of his birth to the hearts of all who knew him.
From the beginning, Bill’s gentle spirit and quick wit stood out to family and friends alike. Growing up in a tight-knit family, he shared bonds defined by laughter, music, and an unshakeable sense of belonging. Through the years, he became known as “Poppa Bear”—a man who took everyone under his wing with warmth, humor, and generosity. He truly never met a stranger; his heart was open, and his kindness instinctive. He would give the shirt off his back without a second thought and became a hero to everyone blessed enough to cross his path.
Bill’s life was woven together by love: for his family, his friends, his hobbies, and the simple joys that made life sweet. He cherished the role of father to his daughters, Tammy Jessie, Pam House, and Kristy Welsh, and of son to Dorothy Palmer. Nothing made him prouder than the family he built and the love they continued to share. As a devoted husband, Bill’s journey was marked by enduring partnership. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Brenda Crockett, and found continued companionship and laughter with his wife, Cindy Crockett, who survives him. The family he leaves behind—Cindy; his son, Carlos (Barbie) Jessie; daughters, Tammy(Michael), Pam (Kenny), and Kristy; sisters, Shelva Davis, Susie (Marvin) Melvin, and Kathi (Richard) Surber; and brother, Richard (Pam) Palmer. He also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 28 Great- Grandchildren, and 1 Great- Great Grandchild, and his fur baby Dizzy—will forever feel his presence in the quiet moments and in every smile he inspired. His circle, though reshaped by loss, remains strong, built from the love and unity he championed. Bill is also remembered by those gone before him: his parents, Dorothy and Bill Palmer and his father Frank Crockett, Sr; his brother, Frankie Crockett, Jr; and his sister, Jan Caddell.
Few things could match Bill’s devotion to his boundless family, except maybe his love for the Denver Broncos—he was a legacy fan, loyal through every season—and for the animals that softened his heart. Known for his silly songs, goofiness, and legendary sense of humor, Bill was the kind of man who could make any gathering a happier affair. Whether lending a hand through church volunteering, championing local charities, or simply sharing stories over the kitchen table, he made sure every person knew they mattered. That silliness and warmth became his signature, inspiring laughter and forging bonds that will endure for generations.
Bill believed in persistence and purpose. One of his proudest accomplishments came when he earned his GED the same year his beloved daughter graduated high school—and at the same time his mother finished hers. In doing so, he demonstrated the value of perseverance, family motivation, and mutual support. That determination also guided him in his career as a delivery driver for Allegra Print and Imaging, where colleagues became friends and his work ethic set an example.
His days were busy with the things that meant most: cheering for his Broncos, journeying on trips to serve others through church and charities, lending a friendly word, and reveling in the togetherness of those he loved. Animals found a true friend in him, and his grandchildren were sources of immense pride and endless stories.
Those who survive Bill will carry forward not only his memory but his spirit—the unwavering kindness, infectious laughter, and open-arms acceptance that made anyone feel like family. The echo of his singing, the warmth of his hugs, and the legendary “Poppa Bear” wisdom will forever be treasures held close.
