William Douglas Campbell, Sr., was born on April 4, 948 in Cornersville, Tennessee. William was the son of the late Jesse Campbell, Jr. and Ellen Campbell Brown. Family and friends called him by his nicknames (Butch and Jake).
William attended Madison Street/Russell Junior High School and Central High School in Louisville, Kentucky. He was drafted and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and served on the USS Apache.
He was a devoted and dedicated staffed member of Wayside Christian Mission Church for thirty-four years. Everyone that he worked with, and we came in contact with said he was reliable, easy-going, dependable and trustworthy.
William accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at Fifth Street Baptist Church on April 1, 1962 and was baptized by Reverend W. J. Hodge.
God allowed him to peacefully slip into eternal rest on Monday, December 16, 2024. William is survived by sons Roderic Dwoyne Campbell, William Douglas Campbell, Jr. (Reneyce), and daughter, Sharnika Marie Glenn (Kevin), sisters Betty Jean Bell, Beverly Marie Coleman (Titus), Angela Denise Campbell, and brothers, Charles William Campbell and Kirby Lee Campbell, twelve grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be on Thursday, December 26, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Southwest Louisville Chapel, 10304 Dixie Highway. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. with burial to follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff, Kentucky.
