William Larry Buckner was born August 10, 1951 in Christian County, Kentucky to the Lionel and Ethel Buckner. Larry, as he was lovingly called, passed peacefully on Tuesday, October 22, 2019. He is also prededed in death by sisters: Bernice Holmes, Elizabeth Carlisle, and Ruth Buckner and 1 Brother: Donald Buckner
Larry accepted Chirst at an early age. He was baptized and a member of Durrett Avenue Baptist Church in Hopkinsville, KY. Larry spent his childhood and adolescence in Hopkinsville. Life and love eventually brought him to Louisville where he remained until his passing.
He retired in 2003 from North American Galvanizing (formerly Boyles) after 30+ years of service as a Heavy Crane Operator. A job and skill that he was very proud of.
Anyone who knew Larry knew that he had an affection for fun, food, fishing, and more importantly family. His daughters (referred to as his "boys') were of great importance to him. He loved them very much. That same love was also shared with his grandchildren.
You could always find Larry at the local McDonald's or White Castle enjoying a cup of coffee with a smile and swapping stories with his retired buddies.
Catching catfish was a favorite pastime. It brought him tremendous joy to fish. An even greater source of joy was sharing his catch with family and neighbors. He always had filleted catfish ready to give away for you to enjoy. Larry was also proud of his beautiful yard and a garden that he personally maintained. In addition to fish, you could easily expect a call from him saying that he had freshly picked tomatoes for you.
Those left to cherish his memory and celebrate his homegoing are Daughters: Felissa Buckner, Jessica Buckner, Melanie Buckner, and Heather Buckner, all of Louisville, KY and Steffani Johnson of Maryland. Son: Eric (Rusheeda) Cornelius of Tennessee.
Sisters: Jessye Torian, Eula Buckner, Lena (Donald) Acree, and Shelia (Andre') Gray, all of Hopkinsville, KY. Brothers: Walter (Earline) Buckner, of Louisville, KY; John (Cynthia) Buckner and Sherwood (Tonya) Buckner; both of Hopkinsville, KY as well as a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at Newcomer, Cremations, Funerals and Receptions- Southwest Louisville Chapel (10304 Dixie Hwy). His Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, at the Newcomer Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Louisville, Cemetery.
