William Charles Bartle

William Charles Bartle, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family at the age of 89 on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Born on July 22, 1936, to Lay and Maysel (Gwynn) Bartle, William—affectionately known as Bill or Uncle Billy—led a life marked by service, dedication, and love.

Bill proudly served his country as a member of the Kentucky National Guard, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to duty and community. Following his military service, he had a successful career, eventually retiring from Diversified Ophthalmics.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six siblings, and also by his daughter-in-law, Sheila Bartle, son-in-law, Richard Bower, mother-in-law, Dotty Dimple Mabuary, and grandson-in-law, Michael Haynes.

William is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Rita (Childers) Bartle. Together, they raised a family that stands as a testament to their enduring love and commitment.

His son, Bruce Bartle, daughter, Annette Bailey, and bonus daughter, Jeanie Bowyer (Chris), carry forward his legacy. Bill’s family expanded further with the arrival of his grandchildren: Kristen Hartman (John); Jennifer Sanger (Joshua); and Jessica Forsythe (Cris), his great-grandchildren—Abbie Burton (Nolan); Kalyn Huff (Mason); Natalie, Ian, Andrew, Lawson, and Kennedy Hartman; Hunter and Nolan Haynes; Emmie and Adelinn Sanger; and Everlee and Carson Forsythe. The family was further blessed with great-great-grandchildren Hudson Burton, Ivy Burton, and Cash Huff, with two more on the way.

Extending the family’s fold, Bill’s bonus grandchildren Cody Bower (Jessica), Justin Bower, and Carrie Jo Bower, along with four bonus great-grandchildren, also hold a cherished place in his heart and memory.

A visitation to honor Bill’s life will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions in New Albany, located at 3309 Ballard Lane. The visitation will continue on Thursday morning after 9:00 a.m., leading up to his funeral service at 11:00 a.m. the same day at the funeral home. Bill will be laid to rest at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to his wife, Rita Bartle, in care of the funeral home.
