Willard Morgan "Mo" Wickstrom, 91, of Louisville, KY passed away Friday, September 17, 2021. He was born October 17, 1929 to the late Werner A. Wickstrom and Semmy M. Wickstrom of Cedar Grove, New Jersey.
Mo served in the Army as a member of the Old Guard at Arlington National Cemetery. In 1949 he moved to Louisville, Kentucky and began his career as a photoengraver at Southern Gravure Services. In 1950, he married Ruth Erkander, also from Cedar Grove, New Jersey. Mo's career took them to San Francisco, California and to Charlotte, North Carolina before returning to Louisville in 1960. Throughout his career he rose through the ranks and became the plant superintendent. He retired after 41 years of service with the company in 1991.
Mo was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast, especially enjoying horse racing and basketball. In his later years he was a strong supporter of U of L athletics. After he retired, Mo and Ruth enjoyed traveling, especially cruising the world with friends. Beyond sports and traveling, Mo also enjoyed cooking, playing cards, reading, as well as his church. He and Ruth were members of St. John Lutheran Church in Louisville where he was a member for 60 years.
Family was most important to him. Mo was married to Ruth for 52 years before she passed in 2003. They have 2 daughters, Margaret (Bill) Shanks, of Versailles, KY and Linda Wickstrom of Lexington, KY, along with 2 grandchildren, Megan Shanks and David Wickstrom. Mo was preceded in death by his brother, Harry Wickstrom (Carol) of Cincinnati, OH. He also leaves behind a dear cousin, Irene Coates of Cape Cod, MA, and a cherished friend Lisa Bruck of Louisville, KY.
A private service will be held Monday, September 20, 2021 at St. John Lutheran Church.
