Wilbur T. "W.T." Bristow, age 92 of Louisville, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2021. W.T. was born to Wilbur T. Bristow Sr. & Katie May Bristow, December 23, 1928 in Owensboro, KY before moving to Louisville in 1935 with sister Leona and brothers Charles, Clifford and Kenneth.
W.T. was drafted into the Army in 1947 during his senior year at Male High School. While getting his physical for the Army, he expressed interest in joining the Navy. He was sent to the Navy recruiting office that same day where he enlisted, and three days later he arrived in Great Lakes, Illinois for boot camp. From there, he travelled to Norfolk, Virginia to board the USS Coral Sea, serving four tours of duty in the Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1952.
Upon discharge, W.T. returned to the Louisville area, joining the family construction business. He also became a member of the local VFW. In 1979, the VFW purchased two acres of land located at 107 Evergreen Parkway. The W.T. Bristow & Sons Construction company, owned at that time by W.T and his brother Charles Bristow, was chosen to develop and build what is now the Middletown VFW Post 1170.
W.T. was a past Commander of Post 1170, and was also a past All State Commander. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of Southeast Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 48 years, Meredith Hall Bristow (2000), their son Gregory Bristow (1994) and his second wife of 16 years, Betty Sallee Bristow (2016). He is survived by his granddaughter Jennifer (Chad), and two great-grandchildren.
Due to the current pandemic, he will be laid to rest in a private military ceremony on Saturday, January 23 at Floydsburg Cemetery in Crestwood, KY. (next to Duncan Memorial Chapel)
