Wilbert "Skip" Hayes III, 72, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2020. Skip served proudly in the US Army during Vietnam as a Sergeant, where he was a Sharp Shooter and received the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. Skip also played Basketball for the Army during his enlistment . He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1966, where he excelled in Football and Basketball. He worked for the Railroad, and at the Yum Center. Skip was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and served on many boards, sang in the choir, and was a member of the "Brotherhood". He was a Kentucky Colonel. Skip enjoyed spending time with his family and being a Mentor for many children in the area.
He was born on December 20, 1948 in Louisville, Kentucky to Wilbert and Eleanor (Johnson) Hayes. He is preceded in death by his Father, Wilbert Hayes, Jr.
Skip is survived by his, Son, Michael (Inelda) Hayes, Mother, Eleanor Foreman, Grandchildren, Michael Hayes, Jr., Daminif Woodson, Adrian Vertrees, Micha'l Hayes, Dayanis Valdivieso, Arianna Chavez, and Dariani Chavez, Great-Grandchildren, Daminif Woodson, Jr., Mia Hayes, Aalia Hayes, and Chance Woodson, Brothers, Jeffrey Hayes, and Patrick Foreman. Skip also leaves behind to cherish his memory a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Uncles, Aunts, Extended Family, and Friends.
Memorial Services will be held at 5:00 pm on Thursday January 9, 2020 at the Emmanuel Baptist Church (3815 West Broadway, Louisville)
