May 26, 1960 - May 21, 2026
Warren Lamont Owens, the fifth child of seven children born to James Alfred and Shirley Jean Owens, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2026, just days before his 66th birthday. Born at the military hospital at Bunker Hill Air Force Base in Kokomo, Indiana, Warren entered the world already part of a proud legacy - a multi generational military family known affectionately as “Military Brats.”
Warren joined Southern Star Baptist Church as a teenager in 1973.
Warren’s childhood reflected the life of a military family on the move. He attended schools in Kokomo, Indiana; Seville, Spain; Aschaffenburg, Germany; Topeka, Kansas; and Suda E. Butler High School in Louisville, Kentucky. These experiences shaped his love of people, travel, and culture - qualities that stayed with him throughout his life.
After high school, Warren joined the R.O.T.C. at South Georgia Technical and Vocational School in Albany, Georgia, graduating in 1981. He proudly served 12 years in the United States Army, receiving an Honorable Discharge. His service, like that of his father and brothers, became a defining part of who he was.
Upon returning to Louisville, Warren discovered a passion for driving long-haul semi-trucks. His adventurous spirit later took him to Alaska, where he spent a year working on a fishing trawler before returning home to the “Ville” to continue trucking until he was no longer able. Warren received an Army medical pension until his passing.
Warren leaves this world knowing he upheld the honor of being part of a multi generational military “Legacy Family.” His father, James Alfred Owens, served 20 years in the United States Air Force. His brothers continued that tradition of service:
· James A. Owens Jr. (Jimmy) - Veteran, Medical Discharge
· Ronald W. Owens (Ronnie) - U.S. Navy, 4 years Active Duty, 17 years Reserve, Retired; 48 years combined Government Service (Navy/Fire); currently with the Sheriff’s Department
· Anthony G. Owens (Tony) - 20 years U.S. Navy (Retired), 30 years law enforcement across four agencies (Retired)
Five military men - four brothers - bound by patriotism, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to their nation.
Warren is also survived by his three devoted sisters:
· Jacqueline D. Owens (Lester) - the eldest sister, who lovingly cared for Warren’s every need and answered every call, day or night
· Valerie G. Owens-Combs - Retired Flight Attendant, 29 years
· Ursula A. Owens (Randolph) - Flight Attendant, 22 years and counting
Warren married twice and had no children, but he leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends whose lives he touched. Warren never met a stranger. He loved music, travel, laughter, and above all, his family. His smile was his signature - warm, disarming, and unforgettable.
The Owens family extends heartfelt thanks to all who attended Warren’s Celebration of Life. We honor him by remembering the good times, the stories, and the smiles he shared so freely. He now rests peacefully, reunited with his father, in the hands of God.
To the many family members who visited Warren during his time of need, your presence brought comfort and strength. Though too numerous to name, you know who you are, and we thank you deeply.
Thank you to Ronald W. Owens who resides in San Diego for the beautiful Poem and video he put together for our dear brother.
Special recognition is given to the compassionate health care professionals who cared for Warren: VA Hospital, Norton’s Hospice, and The Hillcrest Nursing Home.
