Wanda Lee Waa

June 9, 1933 — December 17, 2020

Listen to Obituary
Wanda Lee Waa, 87, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at the Baptist Palliative Care Unit.

She was born on June 9, 1933 in Gallipolis, Ohio to the late Merrill Judson "Jud" Saunders and Gertrude (Lawson) Triscary. She is also preceded in death by her husbands, William George Mick (married 43 years) and Loren Waa (married 12 years), brother Clarence Milton "Bud" Saunders and niece Debra "Deb" Saunders.
Wanda was a beloved wife and a loving and wonderful mother.

She met "Bill" at Goodyear, their workplace. She was in the office and he was a "Grease Monkey." The Goodyear jobs were short lived, however, as they moved on to other occupations. They enjoyed making their loving home, and raising Steve and Julie. After Bill's untimely passing, Wanda met Loren at WOW (Widows or Widowers) group. They enjoyed all things together, their family, their friends, loving life every day. For her, family was most important and she was her happiest when spending time with her family.

She was a homemaker for the most part, however, she did like to work outside the home for her own money. She was fiercely independent and had a knack for decorating. She was always dressed to the nines and loved to fix up and "look pretty". One of her many jobs was as a cashier. Literally people would wait in a long line to see Wanda. She would say "people tell me everything!" Wanda was a gracious listener and lay psychologist. She was a beloved friend. She kept her friends all her life ranging from second grade on. Her best friend in life was Janie.

Wanda was always very generous, giving to people whatever they needed, if she had it. One of her volunteer activities was driving for "Meals on Wheels". Wanda was always an avid reader, and in later years she loved traveling and ballroom dancing. She was an incredible person who helped others her entire life. She was loved by all. Wanda was really gifted in service to others. She possessed a combination of nurse, teacher, caregiver, psychologist, provider, and most of all wife, mother and caring friend.

Wanda was a Christian by faith and a longtime member of Southeast Christian Church and also attended St. John Lutheran Church with her husband Loren.

She is survived by her children, Steve Mick (Marlene), Julie Van Heuklon (Randy) and granddaughter Keely Mick, sister-in-law, Betty Saunders and nieces Sandra Saunders and Kathy O'Mara.

Wanda's first born daughter Karen (Kathy) Frisch was reunited with her in 2010 after many years separated from adopting her out at birth. They were happy to get to know each other for the last ten years and cultivated a loving bond.
