Walter Edward Humphrey, known as Walt, passed away on August 1, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of steadfast love, deep faith, vibrant humor, and unwavering devotion to his family. Born in Louisville on December 31, 1963, Walt’s journey touched many—a span of sixty-two years marked by kindness, strength, laughter, and a heart big enough to light up every room he entered.

Walt’s early years were grounded in Louisville, where he would later graduate from Western High School as part of the Class of 1982. Walt was known for his quick wit and for carrying himself with a unique blend of comedy, sternness, and old-fashioned dependability. These traits became integral to the man he was, traits that never wavered as he built a life rooted in family, faith, and hard work.

Professionally, Walt was a dedicated Laser Operator at Fabricated Metals (Stronghold) for over a decade. He approached each day with the same sense of responsibility and commitment that he brought to his home and family life.

To those who knew him, Walt was a man of resounding faith. This faith guided his steps, shaped his perspective, and inspired those around him to hope and believe in the good. Whether surrounded by loved ones at holiday gatherings or sharing a quiet moment with his cherished wife, Benita, Walt’s belief in something greater was ever-present.

Few could match Walt’s passion for the Pittsburgh Steelers—each season, friends and family knew that Sundays meant watching the game with Walt, exchanging jokes, and soaking in his contagious enthusiasm. And when the holidays arrived, Walt’s famed Christmas decorations transformed his home—and sometimes two or three others—into magical, sparkling wonderlands. His joy from decking the halls and delighting his grandchildren was nothing short of legendary.

Walt’s personality was a glorious tapestry: funny and comical, unafraid to tease or joke at a family cookout. He deeply loved his wife, Benita, whose memory he cherished after her passing.

Walt leaves behind his beloved mother, Etau Humphrey, and his proud legacy continues through his children: Camille Humphrey, Jasmine Humphrey, Takiyah Fields, and Anthony Bullitt. His role as “Pau Pau" was truly special—his grandchildren Jazmin Perkins, Eli Perkins, Malik Perkins, Anthony Jahi Bullitt, Anthony Smith, Ariana Humphrey, and Bre'Anna White carry forward his laughter and wisdom. His great-grandchildren Isaiah Perkins, Arabella Canine, Jayda Scott, and Olivia Perkins were blessed by his gentle spirit. Walt’s siblings, Janet Humphrey, Gail Bousso, Charlotte Blincoe, and Victor Humphrey remain to celebrate and honor his memory.

He is now reunited in peace with his dear wife Benita, his father Albert Humphrey, and his brother Albert "Junny" Humphrey.

The life of Walter Edward Humphrey will be commemorated on August 12, 2026. Friends and family are invited to gather for visitation from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Stephen Church, 1018 South 15th Street, Louisville, KY 40210. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM at St. Stephens Baptist Church, and beloved Walt will be laid to rest during a graveside service at Green Meadow Cemetery, 3800 Shanks Lane, Louisville, KY 40216, beginning at 2:15 PM.

Walt’s memory endures in every shared laugh, every illuminated Christmas display, every moment of steadfast love, and every word of faith. The lives he touched will continue to be guided by the warmth, humor, and integrity that defined his days. Though his presence is deeply missed, the legacy of Walter Edward Humphrey will forever shine brightly in the hearts of those who loved him.
