Walter Chatman Bohannon, Jr., 68, passed away on January 17, 2016. He was a Navy veteran who was proud to serve his country during Vietnam. He was a wonderful family man who loved and dedicated his life to all children. He was an ISOA basketball referee, coached girls basketball at Arcade Baptist Church, named honorary Girl Scout for all his volunteer work, neighborhood safe place for children, owned Li'l Food Grocery on Whitney Ave., and drove a bus for JCPS. The children loved him as "Mr. B."
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter C. Bohannon, Sr.; grandfather Tennie Bohannon; grandmother, Corine Bohannon; mother-in-law, Anna L. Wilson and brother-in-law, Leon Smith.
Walter is survived by his wife Dorothy "Dottie" (Smith) Bohannon of 47 years; daughter, Joanna "Jodie" Bohannon; mother, Ruby Bohannon; grandchildren, Victoria "Tori" and Zachary Bohannon; great grandchildren, Caleb and Makinley Bohannon; sisters, Barbara and Teresa; aunt, Darlene; father-in-law, Paul Wilson; brother-in-laws, Kenneth and Gilbert; sister-in-laws; Pam, Linda, Debbie and many nieces, nephews, along with a multitude of "adopted" children, grandchildren and loving friends.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 19, 2016, from 11am-8pm at Newcomer Funeral Home SW Chapel (10304 Dixie Highway). A celebration of Walter's life will be Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at 12pm at the chapel of Newcomer Funeral Home.
Entombment will be at Evergreen following the service.
