Virginia Catherine (Greening) Porter

Virginia Catherine (Greening) Porter, aged 91, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 30, 2026. Born on September 10, 1934, to Herman and Mary (Nale) Greening, Virginia’s life was marked by dedication, community involvement, and cherished relationships that enriched the lives of those around her.

A proud 1952 graduate of Silver Creek High School, Virginia was a shining presence during her youth, serving as a majorette and earning the honor of Homecoming Queen. Her commitment to community and passion for the arts extended well beyond her school years. Virginia retired after 40 years of employment with Commercial Lithographing Company. She was actively involved in the Daylily Society of Southern Indiana, the American Quilters Society, and remained engaged with the Silver Creek High School Glee Club.

Along with her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Marion Porter; her daughter, Rita Padgett; her granddaughter, Renee Korff, her siblings, Larry Greening, Dorothy Morrison, and her longtime companion, Bill Pryor.

Virginia is survived by her son, Gary Porter; her son-in-law, Joey Padgett; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Her family remembers her fondly as a source of strength, kindness, and steadfast love.

A visitation to honor Virginia’s life will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, located at 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany. It will continue starting at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, with a funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. that same day at the funeral home. Following the service, Virginia will be laid to rest at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
