Virginia (Dixon) Carman, 86, loving wife, mother, and grammy, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2017, peacefully at home with family by her side. She was a long-time member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Floyds Knobs. Virginia retired from the University of Louisville after 30 years of service. She also served as a Southern Baptist Missionary in East Africa from 1959 to 1971.
She was born on October 27, 1930, in Ashland, Kentucky, to the late Ezra and Loraine (Whitt) Dixon. Virginia was also preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. S. Thomas Tipton; and sister, Betty Mellon.
Virginia is survived by her husband of almost 40 years, Fred Carman, Jr.; children, T. Craig Tipton and Kimberly Tipton; sisters, Peggy Leathers and Roberta Jo Browning; grandsons, Thomas Clayton, Riley Christian, and Patrick Emerson Tipton, and Ryan Christopher and Brandon Philip Trowbridge.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 23, 2017, at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Monday after 10:00 a.m. Her Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Edwardsville Cemetery.
