Viola "Girlie" (Engle) DeVore, 98, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away Sunday morning, June 12, 2016. She was a charter member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Albany. Viola was a talented seamstress and enjoyed embroidering. She loved taking pictures and doing crafts.
She was born on April 15, 1918 in New Albany to the late John and Julia (Bezy) Engle. Viola was also preceded in death by her husband, John DeVore; siblings, Mark Jefferson, Charles Jefferson, Jacob Engle, and Bertha Payne.
Viola is survived by her daughters, Pam Chapman (George), Debbie Scott (Danny); sister, Lorena Curtsinger; sisters-in-law, Martha Engle, Margaret Craft; grandchildren, Peter Scott, Thomas Scott (Jeannie); great-grandchildren, Madison, Elizabeth, and Abby Scott; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 1 PM to 7 PM on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, IN). Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM on Thursday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church (1752 Scheller Lane, New Albany) with burial to follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in New Albany.
