Veronica "Vicky" Hutchinson, born on December 31, 1960, in Louisville, Kentucky, left this world peacefully on July 27, 2025, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. A beloved daughter, sister, and mother, Vicky was known for her giving spirit, generous heart, and compassionate nature that touched the lives of all who knew her.
Vicky dedicated 36 fulfilling years as a Greenhouse lead at Churchill Downs, where her hard work and unwavering commitment were evident. She embraced each day with a positive attitude, even as she faced the challenges of her illness. Her remarkable strength and resilience were an inspiration not only to her family but also to her friends and colleagues.
A woman of many passions, Vicky found joy in gardening, nurturing plant life just as she nurtured her relationships. She had a deep love for animals, and her home was always open to any stray in need. Traveling was another great source of happiness for her; she delighted in seeing new places and learning about different cultures. Music, scary movies, puzzles, and board games filled her life with laughter and connection. Time spent with family and friends brought her immense joy, and she cherished these moments dearly.
Her proudest accomplishment was being a devoted mother to her son, Derek Piercy. In him, she instilled the values of kindness, compassion, and hard work that she embodied throughout her life. Vicky's legacy will undoubtedly live on through Derek and the many lives she touched.
Vicky is survived by her son Derek, along with her siblings: Jean (Don) McCormick, John Fritsch, Joe (Debbie) Fritsch, Susan Duvall, Barbara Jones, and Chris Fritsch. She also leaves behind her dear cousin, Lonna Worman and extended family and friends who will cherish her loving memory forever.
She is preceded in death by her beloved mother, Cuma Cole, her father, Clifford Fritsch, and her sister, Cathy Kurtz, who she missed dearly.
