Vernon Lee Ernstberger, 91, of Clarksville, Indiana, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2020. Vernon was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Clarksville and an associate member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church in Floyds Knobs. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army who proudly served during the Korean War and was retired from the Prudential Insurance Company after 25 years of service. Vernon enjoyed fishing, playing Euchre, and supporting local high school sports and IU basketball. Out of all his pastimes, his favorite was supporting and being proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was born on August 7, 1928, in Corydon, Indiana, to the late Frank and Mildred (Kochert) Ernstberger. Along with his parents, Vernon is preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn (Bolly) Ernstberger; son, Charlie Ernstberger; 1 grandchild; and siblings, Iona Miller, Huston Ernstberger, Gilbert Ernstberger, Jane Ponto, and Annette Akers.
Vernon is survived by his children, Michael (Sally) Ernstberger, Ron (Trudi) Ernstberger, Brenda (Michael) Crockett, and Jay (Lisa) Ernstberger; siblings, Paul (LaVerne) Ernstberger, Ruth (Wayne) Shewmaker, Melva (Jack) Gates, Nancy Mathews, and Rita Drury; siblings-in-law, Mary Ruth Ernstberger, Agnes Ernstberger, and Merlyn Ponto; 14 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2020, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - New Albany. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2020, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with entombment and military honors to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany, Indiana.
The family requests that contributions in Vernon's memory be made to the Frank and Mildred Ernstberger Memorial Fund through the Indianapolis Archdiocese.
