Verbon Graves, Sr., 82, passed away on Thursday, November 15, surrounded by family.
He was born in Oneonta, AL on March 3, 1936 to the late Millard Graves, Sr. and Rev. Pauline Aniton Graves Carr. He was a long-standing member of Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church in Anchorage, KY. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lee Etta Graves, née Hightower.
Verbon retired from Philip Morris and Louisville Metro Traffic Division as a traffic guard where he was injured on the job in 2003. He loved to fish and was split fan between the University of Louisville and the University of Kentucky.
He leaves to cherish his memory seven daughters, DiAnne Wilburn (Essamond, Jr.), Paula Johnson (Forrest), Peggy Carter (Bobi), Patsy Graves, Carol Howlett (Carmichael, Sr.), Stephanie Ingram (Jerome), and Jacqueline Graves; five sons, Verbon, Jr., Kenneth, Joseph (Sybil), Millard, and John Graves; three brothers, Millard Graves (Pearl, deceased), Nylon Graves (Dorothy), Nolan Graves (Diane); uncle, David Graves; sister-in-law, Rose Marie Hayden (Kenneth, Sr.); brother-in-law, Robert Hightower (Jean), thirty grandchildren, forty-four great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, November 26, 2018 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions East Chapel (235 Juneau Drive Louisville, KY 40243). Visitation will resume on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. at Portland Memorial Missionary Baptist Church (3802 West Market Street, Louisville, KY 40212), burial will follow at Green Meadows Cemetery.
