Velma Jeanne Hardin

June 30, 1943 — February 14, 2015

Velma Jeanne "V.J." Hardin, 71, of Charlestown, IN passed away on February 14, 2015. Velma was a member of Southeast Christian Church where she sang in the choir. She was also a member of the American Legion Lady's Auxiliary, VFW, and Charlestown Historical Society. Velma was an Elvis fanatic, avid bowler, enjoyed watching UK basketball, and tending to her garden.

She was born in Louisville on June 30, 1943 to the late Howard and Louise (Rankin) Carwile. In addition to her parents, Velma was preceded in death by one brother, Wayne Carwile and one sister, Cammie Jay Carwile.

Survivors include her daughters, Karen Forrest, Sandy Coleman, Frances Ozyurt, and Jessica "Jay" Henon; son, Anthony "Tony" Forrest; brothers Roy Carwile, Gary Carwile, and Mike Carwile; sisters, Marsha Rednour, Faye Glaab, Gail Byers, and Cynthia Sizemore; 7 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday, February 20, 2015 at Newcomer Funeral Home - Southwest Chapel (10304 Dixie Hwy). Funeral service at 10:00 am Saturday at the funeral home with burial to follow in New Bethel Church Cemetery in Hardinsburg, KY.
