Vanley Skaggs

August 13, 1927 — March 9, 2015

Vanley Skaggs, 87, passed away on March 9, 2015, in Hardin County. Vanley Skaggs was a hard worker all of his life retiring from Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company in 1982 after 38 ½ years. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corp. He married his childhood sweetheart, Thelma Hazel Philpot on April 23, 1946.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Thelma; parents, Addie Hatfield and Sam Skaggs; step-father, Fred McCombs; brothers, Hansel, Howard, George, Rudolph and Lonnie Skaggs; sisters, Edna Hornback and Eller Skaggs; step-brothers, Doyle, Herman and Bill McCombs and step-sisters, Pauline Hatcher, Ruby kipper and Frances McCombs

He is survived by his daughter, Glanelene (Larry ) Higgs; sons, Paul (Elaine), Marvin(Samantha) Skaggs and daughter-in-law, Sue Parrish; grandsons, Mike, Matt, Vanley Nelson Skaggs, Greg Borri and Timothy Higgs, granddaughters, Jennifer Carter, Hazel Baker, Marsena Whitehall, Larie Skaggs and Stephanie Parrish, 20 great-grandchildren and helped raise countless other children.

Visitation for Vanley will be Wednesday, March 11, 2015, from 3pm-9pm at Needham Cumberland Presbyterian Church (180 Laurel Ridge Road, Eastview, KY) and Thursday, March 12, 2015, from 9am-11am with a celebration of Vanley's life beginning at 11am.

Burial will be at Little Flock Cemetery.
