Valetta Celia (Ewing) Wehrenberg, age 80, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. Born on November 2, 1945, in Exeter, England, Valetta was the daughter of Arthur and Edna (Stoneman) Ewing. Throughout her childhood, she was lovingly referred to as "Buff”, a name that reflected the warmth and affection that surrounded her early years.
Valetta attended Western Kentucky University, and she dedicated her professional career to the Indiana Health & Family Social Services - Clark County, from which she eventually retired. Her commitment to service extended beyond her career. A devoted wife and loving mother, she poured her heart into her family and took great pride in nurturing, supporting, and advocating for those she loved. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in New Albany, where she formed lasting friendships. Valetta was famously late to almost everything, but never too rushed to notice, connect with, and truly see everyone she met.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Mark Wehrenberg; her children, John Griffin, Jr. (Heather) and Rachel Johnson (Darrin); and her cherished grandchildren, Rylee and Derik. Valetta also leaves behind her siblings: Trevor Ewing, Angela Townsend, and Richard Ewing. Additionally, she received wonderful care from her dear friend, Tia Stanley, whose steady presence, and tremendous support carried Mark and his family through her cancer journey.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 30, 2026, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals &Receptions, located at 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany. Visitation will continue after 9:00 a.m. on Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church, located at 1787 Klerner Lane, New Albany.
