With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Troy Young Black Jr., 59, of New Albany, Indiana, who left this world on Thursday, October 3, 2024. Born on September 3, 1965, in Dickson, Tennessee, Troy was a beloved son to the late Troy and Glenda Black, and a cherished brother to his late sister, Debbie Renfroe.
Troy was a true friend and a larger-than-life presence to all who knew him. His legacy is carried on by his son, Richard Flanagan, and his son’s mother, Laura Flanagan-Cantrell, as well as his nephew, Derek Renfroe, and a vast community of friends and family who will forever remember his laughter and generous spirit. He also leaves behind his faithful dog, Ozzie, who was always by his side and brought him endless joy.
For 30 years, Troy dedicated himself to his work at Joe’s and R Place, where he embodied loyalty and dependability. He was often seen with a warm smile, ready to lend a hand or crack a joke that would light up the room. His commitment to caring for others was unparalleled; he always put the well-being of those around him before his own. A man of simple pleasures, Troy found joy in fishing on serene lakes, playing Bingo, and cheering on his favorite football teams.
Visitation will be held from 12 PM to 6:30 PM on Wednesday, October 9, at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana, 47150) followed by a Funeral Service at 6:30 PM.
In honoring Troy’s memory, the family kindly requests that any donations or contributions be made to Newcomer Funeral Home.
