Tony Decker, born on August 12, 1957, in Louisville, KY, passed away on April 7, 2026. A man of remarkable strength and resilience, Tony was beloved for his good-hearted nature, his quick wit as a jokester, and an overall fantastic personality that brightened the lives of those around him.
Tony was a devoted family man who cherished his role as a great provider. His proudest accomplishment was undoubtedly his family—an enduring legacy that speaks volumes about the love and dedication he gave throughout his life. His affection extended beyond his immediate family to numerous extended relatives and friends who will deeply miss his presence.
A man of varied interests, Tony found joy in tending to his garden, especially nurturing his roses, indulging in crafts, cooking delicious meals, and listening to the timeless sounds of Elvis, Hank Williams, and Conway Twitty. His enjoyment of a good cigarette was well known among those close to him, adding a small, familiar detail to a rich and full life.
Tony is survived by those he held dear: his daughter Tonya (Jeff) Wethington; sons Charlie Durbin, Terry Michael, Christopher Durbin, and Terry Nevins; bonus daughter Nikki Vickery; bonus son Gary Shuley; and grandchildren Rashawn Decker, Bailey Decker, and Brayden Wethington. Each carries a part of Tony’s spirit and the countless memories they shared. They, alongside numerous extended family members and friends, celebrate a man who loved deeply and lived fully.
His legacy is also marked by the memory of those who went before him: his beloved wife of 44 years, Shirley Ann Decker; his father Milton Houchins; his mother Mertra Bates Houchins; brothers Bobby Decker and Ray Ferguson; and sister Alma Douglas. Their memories are intertwined with Tony’s, forming a tapestry of love and remembrance.
A visitation will be held on April 15th from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Louisville, located at 10304 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, KY 40272. Following this, a Celebration of Life will take place at the same location at 6:00 p.m., inviting all who knew Tony to come together in honoring a life so well-lived.
Tony Decker’s journey was marked by his strong character and a heart that embraced life’s joys and challenges with equal fervor. Though he has passed, his spirit endures in the hearts of those he loved and those who loved him. In remembering Tony, we honor a life filled with love, laughter, and the quiet strength of a man who truly made a difference.
