Tommy Louis Thomerson, 79, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, of Georgetown, Indiana, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025. Born on May 15, 1946, in Louisville, Kentucky to Lewis and Mary (Goodman) Thomerson, Tommy lived a life dedicated to service and family.
Tommy was well known for his commitment to his community, having served as a volunteer firefighter for both Camp Taylor and Highview Departments. His career included a long tenure with the L&N Railroad, after which he established his own business, All Around the House, where he showcased his skills as a talented carpenter. An outdoorsman at heart, Tommy enjoyed camping and spending time on the lake, activities that reflected his love for nature. He was also a passionate animal lover and a devoted fan of the Louisville Cardinals.
In addition to his many talents and interests, Tommy's personal life was marked by deep connections with his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Pattie, and his children: Christopher Thomerson, William Thomerson, Julie West, and Natalie McKinney, along with his son-in-law, Matt McKinney, and brother, Douglas Thomerson.
He is survived by his sons, Greg Thomerson and Shawney West, and his brother, David Thomerson. Tommy’s legacy lives on through his grandchildren: Jennifer Moran (Cory), Christopher Thomerson, Anna Henderson (Shane), Patrick McKinney (Lauren Williams), Kyle McKinley (Danielle Voyles), Karey Sweasy (Ryan Goode), and Sarah McKinney, as well as eight great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Diane Thomerson, and longtime friend, Valerie Steinlander.
Tommy's wish was to be cremated. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany), followed by a memorial service at 6:00 p.m.
For many decades, Tommy was an active volunteer for the WHAS Crusade for Children, dedicating his time and efforts to help children in need. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in his memory to that organization.
