Tommy Duane Thomas, Sr., 76, of Clarksville, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2017.
He was born in Seymour, Indiana, on September 16, 1940, to the late Duane and Gertrude (Deputy) Thomas. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Tommy Thomas, Jr.
Tommy attended Huntertown High School and graduated in 1958. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1961 to 1981. Tommy worked as a meteorologist and rose to the rank of Sergeant First Class. Following 20 years of military service, Tommy attended Northwood Institute for Culinary Arts. Upon retirement, he began a 20-year career at Derby Dinner Playhouse as the Chef and House Manager. Tommy made many states his home, living in Alaska, Arizona, Indiana, Utah, and other places. He was a long-time member of Sellersburg United Methodist Church.
Tommy is survived by his wife of 25 years, Carolyn Thomas; daughters, Terri Thomas and Tracy Alford (Peter); brother, Alan Thomas; and grandchildren, Zachary Freeman and Olivia Alford.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 10, 2017, at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Service will take place at 7:00 p.m. after visitation in the chapel at the funeral home. Cremation will follow, following Tommy's wishes.
