Tommy Karnes

With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the peaceful passing of Tommy, surrounded by his loved ones, on July 25, 2026. Born on December 10, 1948, Tommy’s life was woven with love, laughter, and gentle wisdom, forming a legacy that will live on.

For those privileged to know Tommy, he was the embodiment of warmth and humor—a man whose easy-going nature and caring heart left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Whether sharing a funny story, or offering a helping hand, Tommy had an undeniable way of making life’s burdens feel lighter.

Tommy’s journey took him from days spent working at HJ Scheirich to embarking on a bold venture as co-owner, alongside his brother Jerry, at C.A.R.S. His work did not end there; later in life, he found joy in delivering parts with Byerly Ford. These were more than just jobs to Tommy and reflected his strong work ethic.

Tommy’s talents also made him the family’s beloved “Mr. Fix it,” often delivering his signature line, “I just know enough to get me in trouble.” No task was ever too daunting, no household challenge too great—he approached each with patience and determination, teaching those around him that effort and a touch of humor could solve most of life’s puzzles.

Mornings found him enjoying his coffee on the porch swing with his wife, while watching the hummingbirds. For his loved ones, these images are touchstones of comfort and love—a gentle presence, always near, ready with a smile or a bit of advice.

Above all, Tommy was the heart of his family: a true cheerleader, a gun trainer to all, a 4-wheeler enthusiast, avid Poker player and a man who wore many hats. But none was more important than his role as husband, dad, and papa (papaw.) His 54-year marriage to his beloved wife, Nancy, stands as a testament to his unwavering loyalty and deep affection.

Tommy leaves behind his loving wife Nancy, son Kevin Karnes (Stephanie), daughter, Angie Kerfoot (Ronnie); and treasured grandchildren; Kerstin, Ashley, and Tyler. His loving siblings remain to remember him fondly: brothers Guy (Genia) and Jerry (Theresa), and sisters Mary Jane (Gary) and Darlene along with a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends that will carry on his memory.

He now is reunited with family who have gone before him: his parents Rita and Forster Karnes and his brother Jackie Karnes.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Tommy's remarkable life during visitation on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. Both services will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Louisville, 10304 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, KY 40272.

Though words cannot fully express the depth of grief and gratitude felt by those who loved him, Tommy's spirit will live on in the laughter, resilience, and love of his family. We find solace in the memories he has left behind and in the quiet assurance that, just as he always did, he is watching over us with a caring heart and an easy smile.
