Tommy L. Brown born on 17 of April,1943 to Sam & Ethel Brown in Armorel, Arkansas, Mississippi County.
Tommy accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age in Armorel Baptist Church.
He later graduated from college at Arkansas AM&N (Arkansas, Agriculture, Mechanical, & Normal College) in 1967 with a minor in Chemistry and Physics, and a major in Math.
He began his teaching journey in Augusta, Arkansas and then as a Math Instructor in Marianna, Arkansas in 1968-1970.
He moved to Louisville in 1970 to begin working on his Master's Degree also in that year be began teaching at Shawnee until 1972, and from (72-74 Whitney Young), (73-75 Central High School), (1975-1983 Waggner High School), (1983-2000 at Western Middle) where he retired the 1st of July of that year, and after just 19 days he returned to the school system to sub for another 9 years. Giving him 39 years total at Jefferson County Public School Systems.
Tommy had many accomplishments, and accolades he began working in 1972 as the President of AFT, a local teacher organization, and in 1974 The Governor of Louisville charged the task force on Education, to develope a complete blueprint for education which would serve Kentucky for the next quarter of a century, grades Kindergarten through Graduate School.
In the early 1980's Tommy began working as Vice President with the Neighborhood Housing Service (NHS), a non profit organization geared to helping families revitalize their homes. By the mid 1980's Tommy became President of the NHS, where it was restructured and is known as Shawnee Outreach Association and, as President his job now was to focus on reinvestment opportunities in the Shawnee community. In 1993 he received his certificate for Kentucky Teacher Internship Program (KTIP) this would qualify him to be a teacher observer through the University of Louisville for the division of testing.
Tommy was preceded in death by Sammy Ethel (Walker) Brown, and Maddie Lee Westherspoon of Blytheville, Arkansas, Siblings; Sammy (Rose Mae Brown) of Hayti, T.J. Rose of Hayti, Lillie B Rose of Kenneth, and Frank Rose of Hayti, Mother that raised Tommy, Madgie Weathersoon, Biological Mother, Ethel Brown
Tommy is survived by his loving Wife of years, Lauretta Brown, Son, Torrae (Kenya) Brown of West Memphis, Arkansas, Daughter, Andrea Brown of Louisville, Son, Andre Brown of Louisville, Grandchildren, Torrae Brown, Jr. of Memphis, TN, and Rashad Sullivan of Arizona, Siblings, Ida Mae Rose of Springfield, Dorothy Rose of Hayti, Daniel (Darlene) Rose of Caruthersville, MO, and Alexander Rose of Boston. Tommy also leaves behind to cherish his memory a host of Friends and Extended Family.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, April 15, 2022 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, (10304 Dixie Hwy). Visitation will resume from 11:00 am until the time of his Services at the Ralph Avenue A.M.E. Church (2501 Ralph Avenue, Louisville, KY 40216) His Funeral Service will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, at Ralph Avenue AME Church with burial to follow at Green Meadows Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky
