Tommie Gerald Swafford, passed away on January 2, 2026, at the age of 88. He was born on August 4, 1937, in Deering, Missouri, to E.G. Swafford and Jewell Wicker Swafford, who preceded him in death.
Tom dedicated himself to a long and fulfilling career as an engineer for the Norfolk Southern Railroad until his retirement. He also honored his country with his service in the Army National Guard, demonstrating his dedication and love for his nation.
Beyond his professional life, Tom cherished the moments spent barbecuing with family and friends and found great joy in fishing. He was a proud member of the Greenville Masonic Lodge 416 (57 years) and the American Legion Post 42 in Floyds Knobs, where he formed many lasting friendships.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Janice Swafford; children, Walter Swafford, Billy (Lisa) Swafford, Allen (Robin) Swafford, Kristine (Billy) Burton, and Dustin Gatrost; 9 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Euin "Junior" Swafford and Jesse "Hoss" Swafford.
A Memorial Gathering will be from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane). A Masonic Service, led by the Greenville Masonic Lodge #416, will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday at the funeral home. His Memorial Service will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, at the funeral home. Cremation was chosen following Tom's wishes.
