Listen to Obituary

Thomas F. Schupp, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on February 4, 1937, in Louisville, Thomas’s life was marked by devotion to family, hard work, and an infectious joy for living that touched all who knew him.

Thomas was the cherished husband of Judith A. Schupp, with whom he shared so many warm years. He was a devoted father to Mark A. (Tracy) Schupp and Susannah L. (Steven) Blair, and a loving father-in-law to Bill Ruez. Thomas’s deep pride in his family was evident to everyone; he considered them his greatest accomplishment. He was preceded in death by his cherished daughter, Cynthia A. Ruez. The bonds that tied Thomas to his family were also felt by his adored grandchildren: Corey, William, Kelcey, Brandon, Thomas, Katie, Mark, and Madison, and 14 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense joy.

He was born to Morgan and Mary Catherine Schupp, both now passed, and joins his brothers Ralph Schupp and Donald Schupp in eternal rest.

Attended Manual High School, Thomas went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army from 1960 to 1962, attaining the rank of Sergeant and receiving the Good Conduct Medal. His sense of duty and steadfastness would remain hallmarks throughout his life.

Following his military service, Thomas dedicated himself to his career at Southern Gravure, later known as Southern Graphic Systems, working as a machine engraver for an impressive forty-one years. His commitment and expertise left a lasting impact on all his colleagues and the organization he served so diligently and was part of the Lithographers & Photoengravers International Union

Thomas’s passions extended far beyond his professional life. After retirement, he and his wife purchased a motorhome and traveled across the United States, savoring the beauty and adventure that the open road provided. In his leisure, Thomas enjoyed painting and was especially fond of restoring Wheel Horse tractors, showcasing a talent for craftsmanship. Earlier in life, he delighted in casting a line while fishing, lining up a shot at bowling or horseshoes, playing softball, and hosting lively pool parties that brought friends and family together for laughter and camaraderie. He was truly a woodworker, an artist, and above all, a family man. Thomas had strong faith and was a proud member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church.

He was also an avid University of Kentucky fan, embracing the jubilant ups and downs of being a devoted supporter. Thomas is remembered for his sharp sense of humor—always ready with a joke or a smile, determined to bring joy and uplift those around him. He loved to dance and found happiness in the company of family, his loyal dogs, and the simple pleasures of everyday life.

While words can only begin to summarize a life as full and spirited as his, Thomas will be remembered most for his generosity, his unwavering love for family, and his genuine, kind-hearted nature. The warmth he radiated, the smiles he inspired, and the memories he leaves behind stand as a testament to a life lived with honor and joy.
