Thomas R Long

Thomas R. Long, 85, of Louisville, KY passed away on July 7, 2024. He was born on April 17, 1939 in Rotan, Texas to late William "Sap" and Lucille Long. Thomas was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He worked in the early days of Computer Programming, working first with the Department of the Army and then the Department of Defense serving a total service time of 34 years. Thomas was a member of the Daleville Masonic Lodge in Daleville, AL and 50 years service with the Scottish Rite, Valley of Dothan in Dothan, AL. 

He preceded in death by his parents; brother, Don Long; and sister, Sandra Grillet. 

Thomas is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Martha Doughtie Long; his children, Terri Hamby of Denison, TX, Russel Long (Crystal) of Amarillo, TX, Alison McGaughey (Scott) of Louisville, KY, and Brian Long of Louisville, KY; grandchildren, Amber, Cassie, Nick, Courtney, Lindsay, and Megan; great grandchildren, Avery and Rylan. 

A service to celebrate Thomas's life will be on Saturday, July 20th, 2024 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Springdale Presbyterian Church (7812 Brownsboro Road, Louisville, KY 40241) with Pastor Dwain Lee presiding. The family will receive friends that day starting at 1:00 pm. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Thomas's memory may be made to Springdale Presbyterian Church or the Kentucky Humane Society or the ASPCA.
