Thomas Wayne Garris Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on October 9, 1950, in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, Thomas was a beacon of joy and laughter to all who knew him.
He lived a life rich with love and deep ties to his family, who were always at the forefront of his heart. Memories made with his family were woven into the very fabric of his existence; they were, without question, the most important aspect of his life. A loving father to Thomas (Brandy) Wayne Garris Jr. and Joy Lee (Brent) Garris Stevens, he took immense pride in his children and the life lessons he imparted to them.
As a grandfather, Thomas’s heart swelled with joy for his grandchildren: Bryan Thomas Garris, Jazmine Nicole Melton, Dallas Wayne Garris, Thomas Wayne Garris III “Trey,” and Blaze Garris Topping. Each grandchild held a special place in his heart, and he cherished every opportunity to create lasting memories with them. His kindness, charm, and unique sense of humor left an indelible mark on their lives, establishing a legacy of love that will be carried forward.
Thomas was known for his quick wit and ability to light up a room with his laughter. He was often described as funny, charming, and very smart—truly an all-around great guy. His interests included fishing and gambling, but it was his love for watching westerns, cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, and supporting the University of Kentucky that brought him joy in his leisure time.
In addition to his immediate family, Thomas is survived by his beloved sister, Elaine Garris; brother, Jeff Garris; and sister, Melinda (Eddie) Hutchinson.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Owen and Margaret Garris; his sister, Sheila Garris his infant sister, Donna Garris. Their love and guiding spirits undoubtedly shaped the man Thomas became.
As we remember Thomas, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life filled with laughter, wisdom, and endless love for family. His memory will forever remain in our hearts, reminding us of the importance of family and the joy that comes from the simple moments shared together.
