Theresa “T-Bird” Stayton, born Theresa Ann Bowling on December 6, 1951 in Louisville, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2026, in Louisville, KY. With a warm heart, a hearty laugh, and an unwavering devotion to her family, Theresa touched the lives of all who knew her.
Theresa was a proud graduate of Ursuline Academy, Class of 1969. Her education laid the foundation for a dedicated work life, and she spent many years contributing her skills in Accounts Receivable at Winie & Schultz. Colleagues recall her diligence, sharp wit, and her genuine camaraderie with everyone she encountered.
Of all her achievements, Theresa was most proud of her family, nurturing strong bonds that spanned generations. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Kimberly Stayton and Shelly Floyd (Lee), who carry forward her spirit and strength. Her legacy flourishes through her beloved grandchildren: Dashawn Billingslea, Makenzie Holiday, Trish Canary (Jared), Randy Blandford (Olivia), Rita Puckett (Johnny), Maggie Bailey (Matthew), and Joseph Tapia (Alma), as well as her great-grandson, Daylan Billingslea and 8 additional great-grandchildren. Each of them cherishes memories of her kindness and unconditional love.
Theresa’s vibrant life was shaped by close relationships with her siblings. She is survived by her sisters, Cheryl Meyer and Linda Regenauer, and her brother, Thomas Bowling (Dolores). Her extended family includes nieces, Michelle Elder, Sydney Meyer, and Amanda Darnell (Tony), and nephews, Joey Elzy (Taylor) and Mark Regenauer, all of whom held special places in her heart.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, James C. Stayton, her father, Robert Bowling, her mother, Dorothy Bowling. Brothers-in-law Kenny Meyer and Don Regenauer also preceded her in passing. Their memories live on in the stories and laughter shared by those who remain.
Fondly known as “T-Bird,” Theresa cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren, filling homes with warmth, laughter, and the delicious scent of home-cooked meals. Her joys were simple yet profound—she enjoyed sewing, leisurely recreational smokes, and sharing tales and laughter during outings with friends. Rarely would a day pass without Theresa catching up on her favorite soap operas, especially General Hospital, providing her with both relaxation and entertainment.
Those who knew her best will remember her for her generous spirit, her infectious smile, and her ability to make everyone feel at home. Whether it was a quiet afternoon of sewing, a bustling family gathering, or a friendly outing, Theresa brought people together through her love and authenticity. Theresa was also known to alot as Ma Dukes and everyone's second mama.
Family and friends are invited to honor her memory at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Louisville, 10304 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, KY 40272. Visitation will be held on August 20, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The Funeral Service will follow at the same location on August 20, beginning at 6:00 PM and concluding at 7:00 PM.
Theresa “T-Bird” Stayton leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and joyful connection. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but her spirit will live on in the cherished memories she created with her family and friends.
