Theodore Derloshon, a dedicated family man, electrical engineer and passionate long-distance hiker, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026, in New Albany, Indiana. Born on July 12, 1948, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Theodore lived a life marked by commitment, adventure, and devotion to his family and community.

After completing high school, Theodore pursued higher education and earned a bachelor’s degree, a testament to his dedication to lifelong learning. He devoted over 25 years of service as an electrical engineer with IBEW Local 369, where his skills and work ethic earned him great respect among colleagues and peers.

A man of adventurous spirit, Theodore was a lifelong member of the Appalachian Trail Conference and a member of the American Long Distance Hikers Association West. His profound love for long-distance backpacking and thru hiking defined much of his life. Theodore successfully completed the Appalachian Trail, the Pacific Crest Trail, and the Continental Divide Trail, an extraordinary achievement that earned him the esteemed Triple Crown Award. Additionally, he undertook the remarkable challenge of bicycling across the United States, further showcasing his endurance and passion for exploration.

Beyond his professional and outdoor pursuits, Theodore cherished spending time with his family. He leaves behind his beloved daughter, Julianna “Julie” (Kenny) Janes; son, Theodore “Teddy” Charles (Susan) Derloshon, II; and seven grandchildren: Kenny (Cara) Janes, Jr., Kyle Janes, Kailey Janes, Tristan Derloshon, Tanner Derloshon, Bailey Derloshon, and a great-granddaughter, Violet Janes, as well as great-grandson Elliott Janes. Theodore’s extended family includes his siblings Thomas “Tommy” Derloshon, Teresa (Harry) McKeddie, Timothy “Timmy” Derloshon, Trinita “Nita” (Jerry) Lung, Tamara “Tammy” (John) Horn, Tobias “Toby” Derloshon, Tabitha “Tabby” Korpi, and Terence “Terry” (Carol) Derloshon, alongside numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who all hold him in cherished memory.

Theodore was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Sr. and Violet Derloshon, and his grandson, Kasey Janes. Their memory remains a cornerstone of his enduring legacy.

Theodore Derloshon’s life was one of perseverance, achievement, and heartfelt connection. His contributions to the electrical trade, his remarkable feats as a thru hiker, and his unwavering love for his family stand as enduring testaments to a man who lived fully and inspired those around him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the honor of knowing him.

It was Theodore's wishes to be cremated with no services.
