Theodora K. "Doddie" Ellis, 79, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2019. Doddie was a proud and faithful member of the NAACP; the Gilt Edge Baptist Church in Jeffersonville; the Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan, where she was the director of the Allegro Choir; and the Indiana Avenue Missionary Baptist Church in Jeffersonville. She had been recognized many times for achievements in her community. Doddie received the Scruggs-Patrick Trailblazer Award and The Spirit of Detroit Award and was an Honored Professional in the Nationwide Registry of Who's Who in Executive Business. She also served on the Detroit City Council in Testimonial Resolution.
She was born on January 21, 1940, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, to the late Theodore and Vinnie (Sims) Ellis. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her Daughter, Lisa A. Ellis; Son, Richard T. West; Siblings, Jean Ellis, Theodore Ellis, Edith Monroe, Deborah (Red) Radcliffe, and Maxine Berryhill; and Grandson, Charles Michael West.
Doddie is survived by her loving Daughter, Vonnie K. West; Son, James D. (Tracy) West; Son, Neil E. Oliver; Son, Mark (Adrian) Madden; Daughter, Trysia (Leo) Carson; Sister, Shirley (Nathanial, Sr.) Witherspoon; Brother, Charles (Rosetta) Ellis; Brother, Dennis Ellis; Sister-in-law, Wilma Ellis; Brother-in-law, Lester Berryhill; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other loved ones.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2019, at Indiana Avenue Missionary Baptist Church (1501 Thomas V. Bryant Drive, Jeffersonville). Her Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Gilt Edge Baptist Church (1713 Green Street, Jeffersonville) with burial to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville.
